3 x Daily Comedy

3 x Daily Comedy

The truth tastes funny. They say that Comedy = Reality + Time. Do we really have time to wait for reality to amuse us? In March 2020, the world changed so suddenly and so drastically that I was compelled to lighten the mood by any means necessary. Through a quick scientific in-depth analysis of the situation, I determined that we all needed at least 3 doses of comedy each day to maintain our sanity. My new pages on Facebook and Instagram are my way of delivering that medicine. As an advertising creative director and publicist, I spend a good deal of time helping brands and artisans disseminate their messages. But I’ve also logged my 10K+ hours as a comedian and entertainer. Oh, and I have 5 kids & 28 years of experience in THAT field. I love improv, so none of these videos are scripted per se. This is a scrappy, run-and-gun process, but it’s rooted in the characters, dialects, and circumstances around me. I also love to take requests – so if there’s a character/voice you’d like to see, hit me! Who knows what tomorrow holds? All I know is we’ve gotta show up to find out. I hope you enjoy the pages – and, in advance, thanks for...
Branded Standup Tours: Road dog eats the fame bug

Branded Standup Tours: Road dog eats the fame bug

I get a call this week from a friend of mine who runs a “challenger brand”, asking if I’ll head up a comedy tour for them. A challenger brand is a brand that may be popular in its native market but needs help competing with the big boys. I say yes, of course. I’m already well into my “20 Years to Kill” tour, which started this past November and runs through my retirement from standup on November 15, 2035. So, technically, the tour is in progress as we speak. I tell that to my friend, who says, “Hersh, I love you. But this isn’t the fame bug calling.” Ouch. With that statement, he’s explaining that by “head up” he means “put together” and he’s telling me that I’m not headlining this tour. Meaning, he’s not calling to make me the next Kevin Hart. “Look, brother,” I tell him, “I’m almost 49. I’m the same age as Will Fucking Ferrell (that said, I’m a year younger than Chris Rock, the elder statesman of standup…and a dozen years younger than Grandpa Jerry). If I’m not Kevin Hart Famous by now, I’m not gonna worry about it. The fame bug is not an issue. And anyway,” I continue, “I’m not seeking fame. I’m a craftsman. I’m a comic’s comic.” A beat, during which I can kind of hear my friend take some air in. Phone etiquette demands that I give him a few seconds to let it out. Which he does. Slowly, and with the hint of a groan. “Really?” he asks. “Which comic?” Now, I have a lot of clever friends....
20 Years to Kill

20 Years to Kill

I never dreamed I would be the subject of a documentary short. I assumed a feature would be more appropriate. So think of this more as a teaser for the next 20 years… Directed and produced by Warren Lam. Sometimes, a bit pops into your head so you do it once, and while it kills, that’s as good as it’s ever gonna get… Some audiences take their sobriety – and mine – very seriously… I performed this song live and some people wanted to turn it into a video. Mad thanks to Jordan Brady and Justo Diaz… A short Voiceover reel, if you’re into that sort of thing… Here’s a sneak peek at the pilot for TUPCOC, my new sitcom/talk show hybrid:...

Tiffany King has a strong sense of self. She can charm and disarm audiences with a look, a word – or an unexpected burst of song. And that charm comes in handy whether Tiffany is sharing intimate truths about her Texas upbringing, her marriage or new motherhood. Tiffany and Hersh – who have performed (together and apart) at such venues as The Ice House, The Comedy Store, Flappers, Hot Latina Comedy and StandUp NY – draw on her Latina heritage and his Miami roots to entertain you til the last wheel comes off…and at this show – in the back room of the Pig ‘n Whistle – it always does. NOTE: Seating is first-come first-serve so please arrive early! You’ll want to regret this from the beginning. Hersh Tiffany Brian Hersh & Tiffany Tiffany &...

Hersh in Smithereens January 25, 2014!

“I am working with a NEW producer who specializes in crossover entertainment,” says entertainer Hersh Rephun, who is attempting to translate his hit Berlin musical comedy extravaganza into a Hollywood stage production. “He successfully made Hans Schlubershteindel a household name here in the US and I’m confident he’ll do the same for me!” Does this mean Hersh’s plans for a large-scale production are being scaled back? Hardly. “The shortest distance between two points is a bridge,” says Hersh, adding that it’s more about the type of entertainment he’s bringing to the iconic Pig ‘N Whistle. “I have to give American audiences what they want: Who needs the Wiener Philharmoniker when you can have Kanye West or some other reality star??” In addition to a Kanye-like attraction, joining Hersh on this go-round are standout comics Jordan Brady (“I Am Comic”) and Michael Blaustein (every college in America). Special guest and offspring Menachem Rephun (Flappers, Cozy Comedy) will also appear. When: Saturday, January 25, 2014 Where: The Back Room of the Pig ‘n Whistle, 6714 Hollywood Blvd. Showtime: 10:30pm sharp (doors open to live music at 10pm) $10 cover. Full bar and dinner menu No minimum. No maximum NOTE: Seating is first-come first-serve so please arrive early! You’ll want to regret this from the beginning. Check out Hersh’s video and press...

“Hersh in Smithereens” January 18, 2014!

“If we don’t get it right tonight, it will be someone else’s fault,” states world-renowned entertainer and producer Hersh Rephun, attempting to bring his elaborate musical comedy show from Berlin to LA. “Everyone knows that with comedy and world wars, the 3rd time’s the charm.” WHEN: Saturday, January 18, 2014 WHERE: The Pig ‘N Whistle, 6714 Hollywood Blvd, LA CA SHOWTIME: 9:30pm COVER: $10 In spite of two chaotic prior performances, Hersh has been given a chance to set things right with one of Hollywood’s most iconic venues, the Pig ‘n Whistle. Rather than exhaust their talents and energy, Hersh and his team rested over the holidays. “You never want to work out ALL the kinks,” he explains. “A little kinky is good.” Of his previous two Hollywood performances, Hersh comments, “I apologize for the disorganization, and, especially, for losing my temper. It was 1000% my responsibility to maintain decorum – even if the soundman was confused and inadequate.” The January 18 show will feature: Emcee Greg Buckman (HaHa Comedy Cafe) (nervous about opening the show but has almost 2 weeks to practice) The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (16 of 32 players – and 7 instruments – have ALREADY arrived!) Renowned standup comic Tony Montana (and his little friend) Guest Comic Jessica Michelle Singleton (Montreux Comedy Festival) (romantic entanglements pending) New soundman Hersh Rephun (Ice House, Comedy Store, Standup NY) (or fragments thereof) NOTE: This is an intimate venue, so please arrive on time.
